Celebrating Chinese Learning
On Thursday, January 18, Primary students took part for the second time this year in Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s Chinese Learning Celebration! Held at the end of every topic unit, students in both the Chinese as an Additional Language (CAL) and Chinese as a First Language (CFL) tracks joined together to showcase what they’ve learned during the preceding weeks.
During this week’s Learning Celebration, focusing on the topic “Daily Life”, students sang songs and acted out short plays that pulled key vocabulary and dialogue from their class lessons, including food and drink, daily routines, shopping, and taking holidays. In this way, through learning the language, students are able to adapt more quickly to the local culture and to life in China overall.
Learning Celebrations are a great opportunity for students to appreciate just how much they’ve learned in their Chinese classes. By seeing how much they’re able to communicate, it gives them a great sense of pride, as well as more confidence and interest in learning Chinese. This, in turn, provides students with further motivation to continue pursuing their Chinese studies.
